Metamorphosis
Following her graduate collection, Samantha developed a range of designs while undertaking a residency at the Glasgow School of Art. The collection includes forms that resemble textures of rock & legs of crustaceans; both found within the landscape of the Scottish West Coast. All pieces are made using her signature composite material deriving from foraged shell/charcoal from burnt driftwood, & include a range of precious/semi-precious gemstones.
Samantha worked alongside another five AiRs during the academic year; Caius Bearder, Monica Findlay and Scott Smith, who completed their undergraduate study in 2021, as well as Amy Findlay and Kristina Merchant, both of who graduated in 2022.
In March 2023, The Glasgow School of Art was awarded the College Trophy at the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council Awards, after bringing home 27 individual awards. Each AiR had won an award, in addition to staff & students. Samantha entered a new piece titled “Crab Cluster Ring” & was awarded Silver for the 3D Craft & Design in Horn & Polymers, as well as Gold for the Gem-A Award.

On the 10th-16th of May 2023, the AiRs curated their own exhibition “Arcadia”, which was showcased at SaltSpace Coop in the Axiom Building, Glasgow. The show exhibited the collectives latest works that they had developed in the studio at GSA, and was a celebration of completing their position within the Silversmithing and Jewellery Department.
